Sound and Health
We use our core capabilities within sound to help improve the quality of life for people by contributing to research and helping to create awareness of the positive effect sound can have in health-related areas.
Isobel
Several studies have shown that unwanted sound have major consequences for humans. It’s the cause of stress, heart diseases, psychological problems and lower well-being and productivity. On the other hand, wanted sound e.g. music or nature sounds, have demonstrated positive effects on stress relieve, pain relieve and bring sense of happiness and joy. Therefore, there are major health potentials in delivering positive sound impressions, while reducing unwanted sound. Together with the partners we are developing and testing an interactive dynamic sound zone system, which initially will be used in hospitals and in private homes. In these locations, sound impression management can have great healing and preventative effects such as improve patient environment, work environment, family environment etc. In the longer term, it is expected that the results from the ISOBEL project can be expanded and scaled to e.g. outdoor areas and large public spaces.
Future Innovators
We are committed to support future innovators through extensive knowledge sharing, based on our core capabilities within sound, design and craftmanship, and we have a long history of working with institutions and partners to help nurture and develop young talents.

Innovation camp
Every year we host ‘Innovation Camp’ as part of our efforts to support global talents. In 2019 Innovation Camp took place in Shanghai, China – where we invited 30 talented students from around the world to be part a three-week-experience of innovation processes and problem solving. This year, the students were tasked to solve the following: Make an audio product for urban Chinese consumers on the move. Innovation Camp is planned with a number of European and Asian universities, and our designers, engineers and external professors from the attending universities, challenge and provide guidance to the students during the camp. In 2019, students within the disciplinary fields of Industrial Design, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Product Design Psychology and Human technology were recruited. The final day of the camp, the students present their final concepts to both co-students and group of lectures. The outcome of Innovation Camp 2019 was six very interesting prototypes based on deep insights on the specific group of consumers.
Girls & Science
Girls Day in Science is a nationwide (DK) campaign that aims to create awareness about the lack of girls in STEM – an international designation for educations and careers within the field of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. We participated in the campaign, where 36 secondary school girls visited us in Struer and met some of our female employees, who shared their personal stories and gave them an introduction to some of the career paths in B&O.
